PROGRAM OVERVIEW The MIC Internship Program provides rich and unique experiential learning opportunities for youth ages 14 - 21. Broadly modeled on theMIC Fellowship program, the internship team will consist of 5-10 youth who will meet regularly via zoom and work closely with the MIC Fellows on projects related to MIC’s record label, music and peace-building programs, and community partnerships. Working under direct supervision of the Senior Fellow, interns will assist Fellows with their individual Fellowship projects (which range from program and project development to grant and partnership exploration), as well as support Fellows in Cohort initiatives such as marketing, fundraising, and alumni and donor outreach.Interns will participate in trainings and workshops led by MIC Fellows, staff and other professionals to develop valuable collaborative, communication, and organizational skills.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
To play a key role in the transition of Music in Common into a youth-lead organization
To serve as an entry point into Music in Common for youth ages 14-21
To work closely with the Fellowship Cohort, Senior Fellow, and MIC staff in running the day to day programming, marketing, and fundraising activities of the organization
To provide unique, experiential learning opportunities, training, and mentorship for MIC Interns from MIC Fellows, staff, and other professionals.
To leverage this training to develop future MIC Fellows and staff members.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Interns may have previously participated in Music in Common programs and events, but no prior MIC experience is required.
Prospective interns should have a deep interest in music and the arts as agents for social change. No musical experience or artistic skill is required.
The internship program runs from July 1 – June 30each year, concurrent with the Fellowship program and academic calendar. However, due to delays related to Covid, the 2020-2021 internship program will run just six months, beginning in January 2021 and ending June 30, 2021
Interns may intern for more than one year
Meeting schedules will be set once the 2020-2021 internship team is finalized.
Interns must be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours / month to their internship. There is no maximum number of monthly hours. Each intern will meet with Senior Fellow, Trey Carlisle, and MIC staff to determine a number of monthly hours that works best for them.
