PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The MIC Summer Program is a three-week residential program for students ages 15-20. Students live and work together for two weeks on the Darrow School campus and serve on either the music team or film team. Both teams work closely together and are interconnected.
Students on the music team will work in small to medium size ensembles to learn and rehearse a set of approximately 15 songs written in the MIC JAMMS programs. JAMMS (Journalism As Music, Multi-media, and Songwriting) is a cultural immersion program in which students write a song and create a video project to a theme that is important to them. To date, 40 songs have been written by more than 500 youth in the U.S. and Middle East.
The film team will work together as a group to create a documentary film. Using the Summer Program as a living example, the film will demonstrate the power of diversity, inclusion, and collaboration and their benefits to society. All students will participate in creating written, video, and photo blogs to be posted on social media and the Music in Common website throughout the program.
The Summer Program concludes with concerts in the Berkshires, Boston, New York, and possibly Washington, DC and Atlanta.

Living and working together, participants form lasting bonds with one another and benefit from a deep and meaningful immersive environment. Inter-cultural workshops, leadership training, and interfaith dialogues are integrated into the program as well as field trips, hikes, and other fun activities throughout the rich culture and natural beauty of the Berkshires. Participants are empowered by their role as spokespeople for Music in Common, both on stage and behind the camera.

DATES & LOCATION
The 2017 program will take place from July 9 - 30th at the Darrow School in New Lebanon, NY in the Berkshires. Please note that dates may shift a day or two in either direction once roster and tour dates have been finalized.

STAFF
The Summer Program is lead by Music in Common executive director, Todd Mack, assisted by MIC Associate Director, Lynnette, Najimy and a team of MIC program facilitators. Since 2007, Todd and Lynnette have traveled extensively throughout the United States, Middle East, and Far East leading Music in Common programs. There is a maximum student to staff ratio of 5 to 1. Staff will be announced by April 15th.

LIVING
While at Darrow, students and staff will live in campus dorms on separate floors for boys and girls or in separate dorms entirely. Staff will live in the dorms with students. During the tour, students and staff will either stay in hotels or youth hostels or be hosted by local families. Groups will be set by gender. Three meals a day will be provided with vegetarian options at all meals. We will do our best to accommodate all dietary restrictions. Religious and cultural practices and observances will be accommodated. Students will have access to the school athletic center, soccer fields, tennis courts, and more.

TRANSPORTATION
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the Summer Program. Students flying should travel to the Albany, NY airport. Arrangements for airport pickup and drop off must be made with Music in Common staff before booking flights. The final concert tour schedule will determine which airport students will fly home from. All ground transportation during the summer program will be provided by MIC staff or contracted driving services.

TUITION
The MIC Summer Program is our only tuition-based program. All other MIC programs are free of charge to participate. The cost for the Summer Program is $3,900, which includes all meals, activities, training, and transportation during the program. Students should bring money for personal spending, shopping, etc.  Financial aid is available for selected applicants who cannot afford full tuition.
