I learned the importance of listening to the story of individuals, empathize with them, and thinking creatively about how both parties can win when it comes to transforming conflict among people from different backgrounds. When working with people with different views on a situation, respecting everyone as an individual and believing that both parties can win is essential.

MUSIC CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

At Music In Common, we not only believe that music can change the world, we live it! We are a non-profit organization that empowers youth against hate through collaborative songwriting, multimedia and performance. Our programs bring together teens and young adults from diverse backgrounds to discover and celebrate their common ground. Since 2005, Music In Common has directly served thousands of people in more than 300 communities across the globe and across religious, ethnic, cultural, and racial sectors. In any community, our programs can transform apprehension into trust, fear into acceptance, and powerlessness into action. Working together face to face, participants expand understanding, build confidence, strengthen community, wage peace and - yes - change the world
.
YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!
We believe that everyone is a rock star. Yep, everyone. And that means YOU! We want to put the rock star in you to work to help change the world.

AMPLIFY LOUDLY
As musicians and music lovers, we know first hand how passionate you are about music. The way it moves you and transports you to another place. How it expresses your emotions and tells your story. Now, imagine if you could be the voice of hundreds of youth across the globe, many from very different backgrounds than your own and many who may not have the same musical skills as you. The incredibly powerful songs written by these youth in our JAMMS program deserve to be heard and we need your help to do it.

BE THE BAND!
In Amplify musicians ages 14 - 22 have the unique opportunity to work with professional musicians and producers to learn, rehearse, and perform in concert songs written by youth from around the world. In doing so, you’ll learn about the faiths, cultures, and experiences of the youth whose songs you are learning. You will be their ambassadors, amplifying the important messages of their songs to the world via performances at community events, concerts, videos, and recordings. You and your fellow musicians will learn the importance of teamwork, gain self-confidence, and develop strong communication and collaborative skills. You will be the band!

EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME
Being part of the Amplify band, you will grow as a musician and as a person.
Amplify (Your Town) is comprised of musicians ages 14 - 22 who rehearse regularly throughout the year, interpreting and learning JAMMS songs to be performed in their community at concerts, events, and other gatherings. Auditions are held on a rolling basis throughout the year. If accepted, there is no cost to participate in Amplify (Your Town), but each musician is required to sign a pledge of commitment outlining the expectations and requirements of participation. Participant time commitment includes at least 2 rehearsals and 8 - 10 hours per month.
I want to connect to people through music more and collaborate more often with others musically. I’ve mostly just remained solitary or at least independent from other’s help, but now I want to unit with others more often in my creative endeavors.

Amplify is currently accepting applications in Atlanta, GA, The Berkshires, MA, and Southern California.
Amplify 2020 Summer Residency  is a deeply immersive, two and a half week intensive that attracts young musicians from throughout the country who live and rehearse together at Berkshire School in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts.

To better understand the process of JAMMS participants, Amplify 2020 musicians will write their own song in their own JAMMS program.  You will also have the unique opportunity to work with professional musicians and producers to learn, rehearse, and perform in concert songs written by youth from around the world.

Think of it like band camp, but cooler. The program culminates in three concerts and a recording session, and also includes field trips to some of the many wonderful cultural offerings of the Berkshires such as Jacob’s Pillow, Tanglewood, and  Mass MoCA as well as master classes, guest, performances, and industry professional panels.

Application deadline for Amplify 2020 Summer Residency is March 31
